Alcatel-Lucent Ventures was formed in 1998 and was the venture capital subsidiary of Lucent Technologies. The group invests in early-stage technology companies in high-growth communications areas such as optical, data and wireless networking, semiconductors, communications software, professional services, and e-commerce. Lucent Technologies merged with Paris-based Alcatel in December 2006 to form Alcatel-Lucent.Following Lucent Technologies buyout of Alcatel in December 2006 Lucent Venture Partners was renamed Alcatel-Lucent Ventures. The venture investment activities of Lucent Venture Partners were ceased and Alcatel-Lucent Ventures operates as an internal incubator responsible for identifying game-changing ideas within Alcatel-Lucent’s Bell Labs research organisation, incubating them into products, and finding the right mechanism to bring them to market.
