Permodalan Nasional (PNB) was established in 1978 as an investment vehicle for Yayasan Pelaburan Bumiputra. It aims to promote share ownership within the corporate sectors and develop opportunities for suitable Bumiputera (indigenous Malay) professionals through the creation and management of wealth. PNB's core function is to evaluate, select and acquire a sound portfolio of shares in limited companies with growth potential. These will then be sold to Bumiputera professionals in smaller units. The purpose is to ensure that shares are retained by Bumiputera to encourage saving habits and develop entrepreneurship and investment skills of the individuals.
