Simmons & Company is an independent investment bank and financial advisor that focuses on the energy industry. Founded in 1974 by Matthew R. Simmons, the firm run its private equity arm from its Aberdeen office. The firm has previously invested in small oil and gas service companies in Europe. The firm also looks to provide capital to support a “buy and build” strategy in small to medium sized oil service businesses. The strategy is to build 6 – 7 group companies in key sub-sectors, creating value through the knowledge and network of Simmons. The firm looks to lead investments but will typically seek a co-investment partner.In November 2015 Piper Jaffray, a US investment bank, agreed to acquire Simmons & Company.
