Established in 2000, Softbank China Venture Capital (SBCVC) is a venture capital and private equity firm that primarily invests in China. The firm also seeks opportunities in Hong Kong, Macau, and Taiwan. The firm invests across all stages of the development life cycle and targets companies in IT, Internet, cloud technology, new media, e-commerce, communications, clean technology, medical, new materials, consumer services/products, and retail-related sectors. The firm primarily invests as a lead investor and participates in earlier rounds of financing, namely seed round and series A and B. SBCVC will tap on its network and operational, financial, and technical expertise to help companies grow. As of Q4 2010, SBCVC has participated in three separate government guidance funds in China, namely the funds of the Yin Chuan, Suzhou and Chongqing Provinces to develop the regional economies. Twenty percent of the funding will come from the provincial governments and 80% of the funding will come from SBCVC itself. There are no plans for fund raising from other sources for these funds and it plans to launch more funds with other provincial governments within China in the future.
