Trail previously known as Fondations Capital Europe was set up in 2007 by Xavier Marin and Philippe Renauld, as an independent private equity firm. The firm invests in market leading companies across Europe and Asia, creating value by transforming the size, scope and geographical boundaries. In 2013, while branded as Fondations Capital, Trail acquired CM-CIC LBO Partners from CM-CIC Capital Finance, the private equity arm of Crédit Mutuel-CIC banking group. CM-CIC LBO Partners was rebranded as Fondations Capital France and makes buyout investments in promising small and mid-sized French companies.
