Oppenheimer Alternative Investment Management (OAIM) was established in 2005 as a private equity unit within Oppenheimer Asset Management to invest in energy, natural resources and real asset related private equity funds. OAIM is wholly owned by Oppenheimer Holdings, a financial services holding company traded on both the New York and Toronto stock exchanges. The firm's strategy includes making direct investments in to companies as well as indirect investments in to funds and fund of funds (both primary and secondary). Oppenheimer provides clients with access to investments in sectors that may not otherwise be readily available.In 2012, OAIM's private equity fund of funds team spun-out to form ROC Resources. ROC Resources managed Oppenheimer Private Equity Fund I, Oppenheimer Private Equity Co-Investment Fund, Oppenheimer Global Resource Private Equity Fund I, and Oppenheimer Drilling Partners until it ceased operations in 2013.
